The Realm of Wynpeiros, also known as Wynpeiros or the Lower Skylands, are the vast majority of the floating islands in the skies above Onfractus. United not long after the invention of the airship, this society ensures that a voice is given to each governing body within the realm. The registered population of Wynpeiros is just short of 500,000, and is comprised primarily of elves, humans, and eaglefolk. However, with birthright citizenship offered on many islands within its borders, some estimates place the total number of citizens at well over 600,000.
As exploration in the early days of Onfractus continued to rise, many explorers took to the islands of the sky. The magically adept elves sought the highest of the Skylands to inhabit, and others found serenity on the lower isles. As time went on, and as the strength of the Nobles of the Sky increased, many of the lower isles found themselves at the mercy of the tradespeople responsible for the necessities of life. Lacking the same types of plant growth more abundant on the surface of the world, and without the same level of magical skills as their skyward neighbors, the people of the many different isles began to each develop unique crafts and trades to best invite trade value. This creative spark began to flourish, and the various nations of the Lower Skylands became renowned for their ingenuity and innovation. However, these various nations remained still at the mercies of commerce, and the ever-present risk of collapse continued to loom.
Throughout the years, the peoples of the various nations of the Lower Skylands often sought means of travel without outside assistance – with varying results. It wasn’t until Micaiah Wynpeiros, an inventor from the isle of Taunlis, began new development on a project involving the magic of immovable rods, seeing how the magic worked from a more technical perspective. This led to the initial development of the Wynpeiros airship (circa 400SR), which began to provide new opportunities for trade and growth. Over the course of the next few years, Wynpeiros began production of more airships, and began traveling to the other nations of the sky. Each island was provided an opportunity: if they would join under the banner of Wynpeiros, he would provide the trade opportunities that had not been previously available freely. The Lower Skylands quickly rallied to the cause, and soon Wynpeiros became a thriving trade realm.
As the years passed, Micaiah grew old, and left the realm to his children. For three generations the realm was ruled by the Wynpeiros family, until the abdication of Marecilia Wynpeiros, who restructured the government into a parliamentary body with representatives from each of the nations within the realm. This shift began a new era of unity in the Skylands, and the Realm of Wynpeiros prospered.
As the invention of electrical technology was discovered by the United Quarry, Wynpeiros consulted closely with their trade partner to see how this could potentially benefit their airships. Although reserved at first, new technological systems began to slowly emerge to benefit both parties involved. This unity continues to bring new innovation, and opportunity has been abundant.
